After the bebop beginnings in the 1940s, a new form of jazz that was lighter and more lyrical was born in the 1950s. A lot of the chief figures were white West Coast jazz musicians and “Cool Jazz” combined the swinging aspects of the swing era with the harmonic and rhythmic innovations of bebop.
