Instrumental pop music that emerged in the 1970s is often labeled “contemporary” jazz and reflects some of the same influences found in jazz-fusion music. Funkier and more danceable, it is primarily, and often expertly, studio-produced for air play and atmospherics as opposed to documenting a (jazz) performance.
